2017 OFFICIAL GINT-A-CUFFS SCORING RULES

The 2017 Gint-A-Cuffs contest will officially start at 12:01am, Eastern,  Thursday August 10, 2017.  Participants can join until then.  The participants are to provide their own hobby box of Topps Allen & Ginter cards.

All cards that score points, either positive or negative, are to be shown on the participant's blog.  The participant shall keep a per pack score and a running total.  After having scored their whole hobby box, they shall comment on the Leader Board page.  Final scores shall be submitted no later than 11:59pm, Eastern, Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Participants can only post contents from one hobby box.  Choose wisely.

Scoring will be based on the player/individual/place/etc named on the front of the card. Maybe the back.  If it is a card of Jose Reyes sliding into home plate that is covered by one of the Molina boys and Reyes is named on the front of the card, you only get points for Reyes.

Favorite Teams only apply to current MLB teams. The Rome Braves do not equal the Atlanta Braves.  The Washington Senators do not equal the Washington Nationals.

MULTIPLIERS FOR HITS (Hit Cards are relic, autographs, cut autographs, book cards, etc.):
x1.2 If any of those pulls are of a player from your Favorite Team
x1.7 If any hits are of players on the Favorite Players list
x3 If it is your Favorite Player

Combine points if it qualifies for multiple categories.
Example: Mini Any Favorite Player (+3) with A&G back (+2) = 5 points

If your Favorite Player is a Yankee, you get full points for that player only.  All other Yankees are worth points as noted.

If the Yankees are your Favorite Team, that is your problem and you must accept any and all penalties for all cards that are not of your favorite player.

BONUS POINTS
+1 to 4 points at the discretion of the Commissioner.  A selfie of you, your favorite card from your contest box, with some sort of baseball book themed prop / backdrop / costume / etc.

Disclaimer: I have done my best (well, I've given it a go) to insure that the odds are correct.  If I am wrong, please bring it to my attention. Scoring may or may not be addressed based on new odds.

As usual, the Commissioner reserves the right to change or amend these scoring rules for clarification or just poor initial reasoning.  Any changes will be clearly noted to the participants.  Common sense will trump convoluted reasoning.

NOTE: I realize that I have not listed points for all possible bonus or extra cards.  I might not have even listed all possible card categories or subsets.  I'll post them soon enough, or when a participant brings it to my attention that they have one and I haven't assigned points.  Probably that second one.

Bribes.  I'm always open to bribes.  They most likely won't do you a bit of good, as they aren't valid in many states, including mine and probably yours.  Heck, send me something, see what happens.

I'm using the official Topps checklist (pdf), the scanned wrapper post, the checklist at Cardboard Connection, and ebay as my guides for the odds and descriptions of cards.

    1. And when she gets here she should probably have a bribe in hand....

  2. Dear Comish, I am sorry for your loss and my question seems so small in light of that. I believe I have a foil hotbox. I have busted two packs and the base cards have all been foil parallels Is there a bonus for these parallels?

    1. Thank you. Uncle Jerry was a good man. Habits he developed earlier in his life contributed to his death. He acknowledged that. He lived a full life, serving his nation and his community. He's in a better place now. Thanks.

Yeah, the foil hotbox. I could make it easy and say that every foil card is worth 750 points. But that would really suck for the rest of the contestants.

As usual, I'll have to ponder this one.

Translation: You have a few days to get your bribe in order.

  3. I'm a bit of a doof, so if this is answered above, please enlighten me: I pulled a mini red A&G back #/25. How does that score?

    1. Yeah, I saw that. Too late to look into it right now.

(Man, this is going to get old, really fast)

  4. The mini red A&G back #'d /25 is the Brooklyn back. I pulled one also.

For box loaders, how do we score it if we pull one of another contestant's favorite player? I know that isn't technically a "hit," but I thought I would ask.

Thanks, and keeping you and your family in my prayers.

    1. Also, how is the scoring if the What A Day insert is of my favorite team OR features another participant's favorite player?

    2. In the first example, you would get +4 Boxloader and +2 for Other FP (nothing for other's fav team, only other fav player). Same for second example. You get the What A Day bonus then +2 for other fav player (nothing for other fav team). If YOUR fav team, then you get the +1 added. If YOUR fav player, then you get +4 added! Wahoo!!

    3. I noticed that oyu scored your boxloader as +4 (BL) x 1.7FP, rather than the +2 FP. Which one is the correct scoring?

  5. OK Comish a few more rulings please. Last year SPs were not awarded points. Should I assume this remains the case this year? Also, the Ultimate Card Giveaway-are these the Rediscover Topps cards?
