2015 Rules

2015 OFFICIAL GINT-A-CUFFS SCORING RULES

The 2015 Gint-A-Cuffs contest will officially start at 12:01am, Eastern, August 1, 2015.  Participants can join until then.  The participants are to provide their own hobby box of Topps Allen & Ginter cards.

All cards that score points, either positive or negative, are to be shown on the participant's blog.  The participant shall keep a per pack score and a running total.  After having scored their whole hobby box, they shall comment on the Leader Board page.  Final scores shall be submitted no later than 11:59pm, Eastern, Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

UPDATE: Participants can only post one hobby box.  Choose wisely.  (added on Aug. 27)

Scoring will be based on the player/individual/place/etc named on the front of the card. If it is a card of Jose Reyes sliding into home plate that is covered by one of the Molina boys and Reyes is named on the front of the card, you only get points for Reyes.

Favorite Teams only apply to current MLB teams. The Rome Braves do not equal the Atlanta Braves.  The Washington Senators do not equal the Washington Nationals.

  • +30 Autograph Box Loader (Hit Card - divide by 2 if Yankee)

MULTIPLIERS FOR HITS (Hit Cards are relic, autographs, cut autographs, book cards, etc.):
x1.2 If any of those pulls are of a player from your Favorite Team
x1.7 If any hits are of players on the Favorite Players list
x3 If it is your Favorite Player

Combine points if it qualifies for multiple categories.
Example: Mini Any Favorite Player (+3) with A&G back (+2) = 5 points

If your Favorite Player is a Yankee, you get full points for that player only.  All other Yankees are worth points as noted.

If the Yankees are your Favorite Team, that is your problem and you must accept any and all penalties for all cards that are not of your favorite player.

Disclaimer: I have done my best (well, I've given it a go) to insure that the odds are correct.  If I am wrong, please bring it to my attention. Scoring may or may not be addressed based on new odds.

As usual, the Commissioner reserves the right to change or amend these scoring rules for clarification or just poor initial reasoning.  Any changes will be clearly noted to the participants.  Common sense will trump convoluted reasoning.

NOTE: I realize that I have not listed points for all possible bonus or extra cards.  I might not have even listed all possible card categories or subsets.  I'll post them soon enough, or when a participant brings it to my attention that they have one and I haven't assigned points.  Probably that second one.

I'm using the scanned wrapper post, the checklist at Cardboard Connection, and ebay as my guides for the odds and descriptions of cards.

  1. Yo bossman, you know base cards 301-350 aren't short printed and are not necessarily 1:2 odds, right? Minis they are, but not full sized.

Not sure if intentional or just an oversight. Happy hunting.

    1. Oversight. Thanks for catching it. It has been corrected.

    2. While the Denard Span short print example is illustrative of multiple categories, might it also be misleading since #303 isn't a short print?

    3. Faith, you really know how to endear yourself to the Commissioner. That oversight has been corrected by making the Denard card a mini. Problem solved.

  2. Hey Commish, quick question.

Ancient Armory full-sized insert cards. Are they worth +2 points like every other full sized insert cards, or are you a pacifist and are protesting the insertion of weapons in Gint-A-Cuffs (a fighting-esque card competition) by declaring them worth 0 points?

Also, Keys to the City are retail only inserts.

    1. Noted. Yes, the AA cards are worth +2 points. Sloppy editing on my part. Corrected. Also, I've removed the Keys to the City. Good eye. No bonus points for this, though.

  3. Also, framed mini red autos seem high. 1:881 for +22 pts vs. say 10th Anniversary issue autos at 1:1375 for only +20. Thoughts on point disparity vs. odds difference?

Also, the Philae Probe mini card number is missing it's end parentheses - )

    Cheers!

  4. Question: Starting Points inserts have FP/FT bonuses attached to them as well, correct??? I would assume they are similar to base cards (+1/+4/+2) but I wanted to check because it isn't explicitly stated.

  5. Matt, I've just woken up from medically induced sleep that lasted about 8 months. I don't know who wrote those rules. I'll be making some clarifications in a post soon.

  6. Comish-+3 Full-Size Topps A&G Buyback 1:12 (regular base?)

    1. B-Man -- The Full-Size Topps A&G Buybacks are the two cards in your box that will be stamped "10th Anniversary Issue" and will be of a design that is NOT from 2015. They can be any full-sized card from 2006-2014, including code advertisement cards!

The Base Card 10th Anniversary Parallel are 2015 base cards stamped "10th Anniversary Issue" and will be stamped with a serial-number #/10 on the back.

Hope that helps clear things up!

  7. So, regular mini red box loaders get no extra points, correct? Stated odds: 1:12

  8. Another question: For RIP Cards. We get +12 for the Rip Card without ripping. Technically, we know there is a card inside, so do we get the +10 for the card inside even without ripping? ;-)
